Staniel Cay Travel Notice

Staniel Cay Airport is a Bahamas government-owned and operated airport and will be temporarily closed from September 21 through October 31, 2026 for infrastructure improvements and upgrades.

Yes. Staniel Cay remains accessible during the closure. Most airlines, including Makers Air, will be using Black Point Airport as an alternate arrival and departure point.

Black Point is located approximately 5 miles south of Staniel Cay. Guests traveling through Black Point will need to take a short golf cart transfer between the airport and dock, followed by a water taxi between Black Point and Staniel Cay.

The airport closure does not mean Staniel Cay Yacht Club is closed. The resort remains accessible, and transportation accommodations have been arranged to help make travel between Black Point and Staniel Cay as seamless as possible.

Complimentary golf cart transportation will be provided between Black Point Airport and the Black Point dock for Makers Air passengers and Staniel Cay Yacht Club hotel and cottage guests.

Yes. Porter service will be available to assist with luggage on and off the water taxi and golf carts.

The water taxi ride between Black Point and Staniel Cay is approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

For arriving guests, the water taxi will travel from the Black Point dock directly to the Staniel Cay Yacht Club dock.

For departing guests, the water taxi will depart from the Yacht Club dock and travel to Black Point, where complimentary golf cart transportation will be provided to Black Point Airport.

No. Guests are welcome to make their own transportation arrangements if they prefer. Any alternative transportation arrangements and associated costs will be the guest’s responsibility.

Please arrive at the ferry dock at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled water taxi departure time. This allows sufficient time for boarding and luggage handling. The water taxi will operate according to the published schedule, so please plan accordingly.

No advance reservation is required for the regularly scheduled water taxi service. Simply arrive at the ferry dock at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Please note that the preferred $20 one-way fare is available only to Makers Air passengers and registered Staniel Cay Yacht Club cottage guests.

The preferred water taxi fare is $20 per person, one way. This means the fare is $20 per person from Black Point to Staniel Cay and an additional $20 per person for the return trip from Staniel Cay to Black Point. A 10% VAT will be applied to all transactions.

Payment is made directly to the water taxi operator, Aquaquest Escapes. They accept cash, Zelle and credit cards.

The water taxi is operated by Aquaquest Escapes, Exuma, a licensed and insured independent provider. The vessel is captained by a 200-ton licensed captain.

The Aquaquest Escapes water taxi is a 35-foot V-bottom center console with a hard top, padded seating and three outboard engines.

Transportation arrangements have been established to accommodate Makers Air passengers traveling through Black Point during the Staniel Cay Airport closure. Guests should review the applicable transportation information provided with their travel arrangements.

If you are traveling on another commercial carrier, please contact your airline directly to confirm how the Staniel Cay Airport closure will affect your flight, which alternate airport will be used and what transfer options are available to you. If your flight will arrive or depart through Black Point, you should plan your flight times around the scheduled water taxi service whenever possible.

Yes. Staniel Cay Yacht Club guests arriving via private aircraft through Black Point can take advantage of the preferred water taxi fare and complimentary golf cart transportation.

Private pilots should carefully coordinate their arrival and departure times with the scheduled water taxi service.

You may need to wait for the next scheduled water taxi or arrange a private water taxi at your own expense. A private transfer will cost significantly more than the preferred $20 per person scheduled fare.

There is a waterside restaurant and bar at the Black Point ferry dock where guests may wait if they arrive between scheduled water taxi departures.

Aligning your flights with the available ferry service will help you avoid chartering a private water taxi, which would be at the guest’s expense and significantly more than the preferred rate of $20 per person each way.
